What You Need To Know

In advance of our meeting

I will require in advance, a copy of the document(s) to be notarised, together with any correspondence or requirements specified by any third parties including foreign lawyers. It may be necessary for me to contact a third party, so I will require you to give your permission to that party or foreign lawyer to allow me to speak with them.

Signatures

Please do not sign any document in advance of our meeting, thinking it will save time. It is usual that you will be required to sign your document in front of a Notary Public to ensure your signature is witnessed properly.

Identification

To comply with the money laundering regulations 2019, Notaries are obliged to keep evidence of the identity and address of all of their clients. Please bring with you to our meeting original and appropriate means of your identification and your corporate (or other) authority, together with the same for each person or party who will be appearing before me in any formal capacity.

  • For private clients, I require photographic evidence of identify e.g. a current valid passport, photo card driving licence or national identity card together with proof of residential address e.g. council demand, utility bill or bank statement issued within the last three months.

  • For a company, I will conduct my own checks at Companies House to establish that the company exists and that the signatory has authority to act on its behalf.

Terms of Business

My notarial services are provided subject to my Terms of Business. I will provide you with these (usually by email) which I ask you to read carefully, sign and return to me as soon as possible, retaining a copy for yourself. I can only start work for you once this has been done.

Translations

Documents presented maybe in a foreign language. It is imperative that I ensure that the client and myself understand the meaning and effect of the document. While I do not usually give advice about the meaning or effect of the document, it is important that I see any correspondence or advice that has been given by others.

Official translations of foreign language documents may be required as a condition of due notarisation. In this case additional costs will be incurred.

Fees/ Quotations and Estimates

Where it is appropriate, I will provide you with a fixed fee quotation based on documents and instructions being emailed to us first, for review. Quotations can not therefore be provided over the telephone. Disbursements and travel costs will be extra.

In some circumstances, it may be difficult to estimate how many hours will be required to complete a matter. In this case, advice will be provided as to the potential cost and the basis on which the total cost will be calculated.

Personal attendance

Your personal attendance normally at my offices will always be required. My practice is located near Tanworth-in-Arden at the address given on the Contacts page.

I can of course see you at your home, office or elsewhere but additional travelling cost will be incurred.
